Review of Port St. Lucie, Florida

Not a good place for a single retired person.
Star Rating - 7/16/2015
I've lived in Port Saint Lucie for over two years. I came here after retiring from a key position in a large city law firm, and thought this would be a nice place to relax and enjoy my years of retirement. Rumors are that the city beaches had some kind of contaminated waters dumped on them and that they are not safe for swimming. There is a church practically in every corner, there are no community classes to attend and not much to do to stimulate your brain. The nearest opera is in Palm Beach, (there is a very small opera in Vero Beach) but it does not compares to the real thing. If you want to go to a classical concert, you better start driving 1 hour or more to West Palm Beach. The town dies when night falls. Unless you are fun of going to bars and having drinks, there is nothing more to do here. For a single older person this is not a place to stimulate your brain, and even for a couple may still be the same. If you would be happy to go to do some exercises at the Civic Center, or go Wednesdays and Sundays to church, while dying slowly of boredom and inertia, this is the place for you. I honestly cant understand why would anybody with two inches of brain would love it here.

Yep, I came here a few years ago to do some fishing, perhaps ballroom dance classes, and get involved as a citizen in town government. What I found was polluted water to fish in, dance of the living dead (young folks are not interested), and town government run like a police state (and people just don't care).

Some people like to take classes at Indian River State College, or go boating & fishing (not all of the water is polluted). They also enjoy the beach and getting involved in local civic or social groups. There are things to do and things to stimulate your brain if you look for them. Port St Lucie is a growing area, why not become part of the solution?

Thank you for posting your comments. I currently live in New York and was looking to move to PSL by myself. I want to be in an active community making new friends and doing fun things. This area is not for me or my personality.

Thank you Crist for posting your comments. I was interested in moving to PSL from New York by myself and was looking to make new friends and fun things to keep me busy. This does not sound like a good fit for me since I am very social and want fun things to do.
